Common questions regarding our maintenance plans

What are website maintenance services?

Website maintenance services are a collection of essential tasks that keep a website secure, updated, and performing well, ensuring optimal function and continued relevance. Standard services are detailed below:

Security updates and monitoring: This includes installing security patches, detecting suspicious activity, and protecting against malware and hacking.

Software updates: Updates are performed to the content management system (CMS), plugins, and themes for compatibility and security.

Content updates: Updating a website’s content to ensure ongoing accuracy and relevance through additions, edits, and removals.

Backups and recovery: Perform regular backups of files and databases for quick restoration after data loss or crashes.

Performance optimisation: Work on streamlining website speed and responsiveness through image optimisation, file compression, and code refinement.

SEO monitoring: Monitors rankings, find SEO problems, and improve search engine results.

Broken link checking: This identifies and fixes broken links to improve user experience.

Uptime monitoring: This is where your website is monitored for downtime, and issues are resolved to ensure website accessibility.

Consistent website maintenance is imperative for all website administrators. Just like vehicle maintenance, it ensures optimal performance and security. The following are three primary advantages:

Operational efficacy: Maintenance guarantees current information and functional hyperlinks.

Security fortification: Routine updates mitigate emerging cyber vulnerabilities.

Enhanced user engagement: A well-maintained website provides optimal speed and relevant content.

The price of website maintenance services can vary significantly, starting from £50 per hour for smaller websites to £150 or even £5,000+ per month for larger, more complex websites. Factors influencing the final cost include the provider’s location, the complexity of your website’s requirements, and the service package you select.

All sites need some form of maintenance, upkeep, or management. It is always best to keep a well-maintained and up-to-date online presence for your visitors and the search engines.

It can help with on-site SEO because if your website is constantly updated with new content and uses the latest versions of plugins and themes, it will run faster and improve the users’ online experience. Search engines give precedent to pages that are being actively used over ones that are not.

  • Having us look after the health of your site or online shop has the following advantages:
  • Each time new content is added, it gives the site a new freshness which google likes to see.
  • Regular upkeep can help increase visitors, leads, and sales.
  • It can help with obtaining better positions in the SERPS.

No, we do not require you to sign up for any service contract, so you are never locked into any management plan. We offer monthly assistance packages, which can be cancelled at any time.

Do WordPress websites need maintenance?

Without question, WordPress websites demand regular maintenance. Though WordPress is powerful and easy to use, it’s not a system that can be left unattended.

For the security, performance, and longevity of your WordPress website, you must perform regular maintenance. This includes:

  • Keeping the WordPress core, themes, and plugins updated.
  • Performing regular backups.
  • Implementing robust security measures.

These processes will ensure your site remains secure, up-to-date, and functioning optimally.

If you’re experiencing WordPress issues, any website designer or developer with WordPress experience can help. At Mays Website Designers, we specialise in WordPress and have an in-depth knowledge of most problems that can occur.

WordPress maintenance costs depend on your website’s size and type. Similar to our standard maintenance packages, we offer an hourly rate of £50 or monthly plans starting at £150+. However, we believe in providing tailored pricing to best suit each client’s specific needs.

Once you confirm you wish to proceed with our assistance, we will begin immediately after the first hour(s) or month is paid. We will keep you updated on the progress of the help we provide.

When you are ready for us to begin work, we will need you to supply our website maintenance team with your admin login details. If you wish to create a separate set of details, that is no problem, but we will require full backend access to the site.

A single plan is for only one website; however, we can create a customised maintenance and upkeep package to help you with multiple sites.

Yes, we maintain many sites that are not hosted with us.

Your web pages will remain live online without downtime while we conduct our support work (unless otherwise stated).
